Rarity

In a NFT collection, each NFT token/asset is identified by a unique rank from 1 to the size of the collection. OCM Genesis is a collection of 10,000 unique NFT tokens/assets. OCM Genesis ranked #1 is the most rare out of the entire collection of 10,000. In other words, OCM Genesis ranked #1 has the highest rarity score as calculated by a specific rarity tool (e.g. Rarity Sniper, Rarity.Tools). -- Rarity scores may differ slightly between rarity ranking tools since each tool places slightly more or less weight on certain collection trait-attribute distributions in their proprietary rarity algorithms. Rarity ranking algorithms take into account how often certain traits and attributes appear individually or in combination (meta-trait) within the entire collection based on data a collection, in our case OCM, provided the rarity ranking tool at registration. OCM has seven individual traits: Background, Fur, Mouth, Eyes, Clothes, Hat and Earring. Frequency of these traits are used to calculate rarity scores and ranking.

Each monkey is cool. Some are rare. Some are super rare. But all are special. Rarity is subjective and each OCM is unique. Choose the one that speaks to you. Find your favorite.

Rarity Ranking Tools

There are two tools dedicated to ranking generative art and collectible NFTs by rarity:

  • Rarity Sniper Bot - often available as a dedicated channel in a NFT project's Discord server

  • Rarity.Tools - website

OCM Genesis rankings are available on Rarity.Tools under All Collections, "OnChainMonkey".

What does Rarity Rank mean?

Keep in mind that the OCM token/asset ID should not be confused by the OCM ranking number. OCM number/ID refers to when the token/asset was minted in the OCM Genesis collection of 10k. This is the number you see identifying an OCM Genesis on secondary marketplaces, like OpenSea.

Ex.

OCM Gensis #3 was the 3rd token to be minted in the entire OCM Genesis 10k collection and can be found on OpenSea as OCM Genesis #3 (ID = 3).

However, OCM Genesis ranked #3 in rarity is OCM Genesis #9990 (ID = 9990).

Overall value of rarity is subjective and there are potential discrepancies in ratings between rarity ranking tools.

Ex.

Rarity Sniper scores OCM Genesis #3 with a rarity score of 97.97 and a rarity ranking of 1057 (out of 9500).

rarity.tools scores OCM Genesis #3 with a rarity score of 145.21 and a rarity ranking of 1152 (out of 9500).

Using Rarity Sniper Bot

Check rarity ranking of an OCM Genesis using Rarity Sniper [BOT]:

  1. On the OCM Discord server, you can access Rarity Sniper from the #🎯 rarity-sniper channel.

  2. Type: !rarity id X

    • where X is the OCM Genesis’ unique ID number from 1 to 10,000, found on OpenSea

Ex.

!rarity id 3

This means OCM Genesis #3 (ID #3) was the 3rd token to be minted in the entire 10k OCM Gensis collection at the time of the mint. Rarity Sniper scores OCM Genesis #3 with a rarity score of 97.97 and a rarity ranking of 1057 (out of 9500).

Although OCM Genesis is a collection of 10,000 unique tokens, 500 tokens were reserved for charity auctions, giveaways and future Metagood use (see "OCM Key Information" section on OCM website). This is why rarity ranking is calculated out of 9,500 instead of 10,000.

  • Using Rarity Sniper on a different project Discord server will display the rarity of that project, not OCM's rarity ratings.

  • Take care in the Rarity Sniper command spelling and parameters. Incorrect entries will either result in a seemingly unresponsive Rarity Sniper or generic error message.

Using Rarity.Tools

"Rarity.Tools is a website dedicated to ranking generative art and collectible NFTs by rarity." (Source: rarity.tools)

Check rarity ranking of an OCM token using Rarity.Ttools:

  1. In the top menu bar, click on All Collections.

  2. In the Search by Project Name text box, type: OnChainMonkey

  3. rarity.tools will display the entire OnChainMonkey collection ranked by rarity.

  4. In the left search panel, under Project: OnChainMonkey, enter the ID of a specific OCM monkey in the ID... text box.

  5. Click Lookup

Ex.

rarity.tools Lookup for OCM ID 3

This means OCM Genesis #3 (ID #3) was the 3rd token to be minted in the entire 10k OCM Genesis collection at the time of the mint. rarity.tools scores OCM Genesis #0003 with a rarity score of 145.21 and a rarity ranking of 1152 (out of 9500).

Although OCM Genesis is a collection of 10,000 unique tokens, 500 tokens were reserved for charity auctions, giveaways and future Metagood use (see "OCM Key Information" section on OCM website). This is why rarity ranking is calculated out of 9,500 instead of 10,000.

Rarity.Tools details a useful post to understanding rarity and interpreting their ranking values, "Introducing rarity.tools".
